The REZZA+’VOIR laneways public art project is a two year community based art project, commissioned by Darebin City Council. The installation is situated across two connecting laneways in the suburb of Reservoir. Artwork components include; neon signage, customised letterforms and ground artwork, street posters, ongoing workshops with local community members.

Fabrication of neon with Reservoir sign maker. Robert Papa, from Signmansez.

Working with the line marking crew from Darebin City Council on the ground artwork install. The graphic is an interweaving of custom designed geometric letterforms for the words ‘Darebin’ and ‘Reservoir’.

September 2019–June 2020

For stage 2 of the laneways project, residents from the East Reservoir Strathmerton Street apartments created their own handmade garden portraits. Through a series of workshops held at the apartments, women created the works using local flora from the Darebin Creek and their own gardens. Hand sewn elements and even a convincing selection of fake flowers were also included! These were then photographed for the laneway posters. Each of the images were reproduced as a small framed print to hang in the maker’s homes.

This stage of the project was supported by and made possible by the amazing women at Reservoir Neighbourhood House. Thanks Angie, Lia, Kate and Vikki.

Artists: With special thanks to Betty, Esme, Lyn, Roslin, Sonia, Maria, Bev, Flora and Josie for their work and creativity on this project.
